ProGrade Digital is expanding its V60 UHS-II SD range with high capacity 512GB cards

2 min read

Although V90 cards represent the pinnacle of speed when it comes to UHS-II SD cards, V60 cards are still fast enough to meet most users’ needs – even when recording high bitrate 4K video . However, the only thing these video shooters need are high-capacity cards. Well, today ProGrade Digital announced its new 512GB high capacity UHS-II V60 SD cards.

The new card expands ProGrade’s Gold line of cards, complementing the existing 128GB and 256GB cards and offering write speeds of up to 130MB/s. with a guaranteed continuous write speed of at least 60 MB/s. And while you might scoff at a V60 card, 60MB/s equals 480Mbps. Plenty enough for many cameras and at less than half the price of ProGrade’s 512GB Cobalt series V90 card.

The new 512GB ProGrade Gold V60 SD card has a maximum read speed of up to 250MB/s and burst write speeds of up to 130MB/s. The burst write speeds are great when you’re shooting still images and just need to clear the buffer quickly when shooting bursts of photos in Burst mode. The minimum sustained write speed is 60MB/s, which means you’re guaranteed to record videos with codecs up to 480Mbps and possibly higher.

For many video shooters out there, this is still a perfectly acceptable speed. Even the Panasonic GH5’s 10-bit 4:2:2 4K footage is only 400 Mbps, easily fitting into the V60 speed limits. If you have a camera that records higher, up to 600Mbps, then you may still need a V90 card. But most cameras that come out these days that record such a high bitrate have dual UHS-II and CFexpress slots – and a CFexpress card is cheaper than a V90 card these days anyway.

Like the other cards in ProGrade’s UHS-II V60 Gold range, they’re tested and certified to guarantee their read and write speeds and are specifically optimized for video use. Refresh Pro monitors the health of the card and allows you to reset it to the factory state. Each card is also laser etched with a unique serial number, allowing them to track the card’s entire history right through to manufacture for support purposes, and comes with a three-year warranty.

The ProGrade Digital 512GB UHS-II V60 Gold SD card is available for pre-order soon for $199.99 and is expected to ship before the end of the year. We’ll update this post when we have more specific information. ProGrade 128GB and 256GB UHS-II V60 Gold SD cards are available now for $54.99 and $104.99, respectively.
